The kickoff to a very cool public art event is this Fri from 6 to 9 p.m. at ArtCenter on S. Elmwood at the Commons in TC. The ArtCenter is working to create a mural on the south wall of the Ace Hardware on Front St, as an “entrance feature” to downtown from the west. The public will paint 2,600 tiles to create the image, which will be selected this Fri. For more info, go to http://www.artcentertraversecity.com/Events/tabid/63/Default.aspx and click on “Community Mural Mosaic.” Thanks to ArtCenter board member and architect Dave Lawrence for the heads up.

Here are some topics that may interest you next week:

Monday night at 7 pm the city commission has a public hearing on an ordinance to regulate long-term anchoring off city beaches.  This is not day-long boating, but the boats that park for weeks at a time or all summer.

Also Monday night the city commission will discuss an ordinance that delegates to TCLP the job of providing  free wireless in town.

update – TCLP will also be meeting Tuesday at 5:15 pm in the city county building to review a study on fuel sources for biomass.  You can read the study here:  http://www.tclp.org/uploaded_files/PACKET_-_Study_Session_04.06.10.PDF

Wednesday at 7 pm at the Hagerty Center TCLP will present its conclusions about our renewable energy future, following the public forums last month.

And Saturday at 10 am at the Heritage Center the city commission will discuss this year’s budget priorities, including streets and sidewalks, employee costs, community development, and other topics.

We’d love to hear from you, at the meetings, by email, or in this space.  And please, a reminder that we want your comments, but anonymous posts or flaming other commenters are no longer permitted.  Thank you!
